Matthew, Emma and their children moved back to Roecliffe from London in 2009 to give their children the idyllic childhood they remember so fondly and have since felt lucky and grateful to be a small part of our countryside, admiring and appreciating the changing of the seasons and the scenery around us and so wanted to share the experience with you by creating Waingates Farm Huts, a romantic retreat for couples to get away from it all and enjoy the peace and tranquillity that nature has to offer.
These beautiful Shepherds Huts have every luxury you would expect from a boutique hotel room, surrounded by the stunning landscape and abundant wildlife making them the perfect place to get away from everything, unwind and relax.
Lovingly crafted to our own design and specification to incorporate a traditional rustic look from the outside with spacious modern luxury living on the inside, all of our huts are ensuite and set within their own private garden with wood fired Hot Tub.
Each self-catering Shepherds’ Hut is supplied with everything you need to enjoy both indoor and outdoor living including gas BBQ’s, fire pits, private gardens with outdoor seating aswell as a communal space with a large table and pizza oven to enjoy evenings with friends. If you would rather eat out we are just a short picturesque walk from the popular and award winning 16th Century coaching Inn, The Crown Inn at Roecliffe, who serve breakfast, lunch and dinner.
The Roecliffe Estate
There are plenty of enjoyable walks within the Roecliffe Estate, each hut will be supplied with detailed maps making it easy for walkers to make the most of their picturesque surroundings and abundant wildlife. Most of the bridalways and footpaths are also linked, so either walkers or cyclists can easily connect to the local villages of Roecliffe, Copgrove, Minskip, Staveley, Bishop Monkton and Burton Leonard from Waingates Farm.
Staveley Nature Reserve
Staveley Nature Reserve is a superb wetland site lying close to the River Tutt, which also boarders Roecliffe Estate, and is maintained by The Yorkshire Wildlife Trust. It is well worth a visit and only a 15 to 30 minute walk along a footpath through Newfields Farm from Waingates Farm Huts, an ideal site for bird watching and holds year round interest with regular sightings of otters, rare plant species, dragon flies and kingfishers among the highlights. We would also recommend stopping off at The Royal Oak in Staveley, a dog friendly pub serving lunch and dinner.
The picturesque village of Roecliffe in the Lower Ure Valley sits on the banks of the River Ure with the idyllic village green at its’ centre and St Marys Church in the heart of the village. This beautiful church is believed to be the only church in the country with an entirely vaulted roof.
